The Notorious FAQ Page :)
Questions come up now and then and here is a small collection of some of the most common and relevant ones. If you got somethin’ else for me give me a chirp through the contact form.
The Studio
This is such an interesting question and by far it is the most common one I get. I am neither; I am a creative person that creates. The tools and medium are vast these days and everything is possible. I also paint and draw on canvas, I make videos on occasion and work with concrete and wood. A creative person makes better things. One can train a monkey to use Photoshop, but what is in my mind cannot be created by anyone but me.
REMEMBER: The computer doesn't make you creative.
The defining shape is a hexagon, representing the head of a bolt. It is an homage to my blue collar roots and being raised in a community of people who aren't afraid to get dirty. The points appear a bit dull to symbolize the wear over time.
The D is my name and the counter of the letter is removed in order to make the shape more economic. One of my guiding principles for a logo design is to avoid any "floating" elements whenever I can. The letter D does not need it in order to be read clearly.
The / represents the junction in the road. When I was making websites back in the day I learned that a forward slash indicates a change of directory along the path. To me, this literally means "possibilities". It could be D/PHOTOGRAPHY, D/FINE ART, D/GRAPHIC DESIGN or D/BIRD WATCHING. It stands for my curiosity and the range and variety of skills and interests.
Those elements live within the "Bolt" since that is my foundation.
Don’t concern yourself with gear. Shoot more. We don't pay for film and processing anymore so it's free. The skill of seeing light and anticipating moments is worth more on a shitty camera than any bad image on an expensive camera.
The short answer is yes. The less short answer is I am available on a selected basis depending on my current schedule. I really enjoy inspiring other creatives and love meeting fellow artists so I always try to make it happen if it’s possible.
Yes. I bring many of years of experience to my clients. In the past I've been brought in to help solve digital workflow challenges, provide art direction and design counsel, set up lighting and cinematic direction and I even create product names. I can help.
Returns
I’ll get started on a replacement right away. In order to file a claim with the shipper, I’ll need you to provide me with the following: a picture of the box/package (take a photo before you open it if you can), a picture of the shipping label, and a picture of the damaged product. I’ll take care of the rest.
Whether it was my mistake or the courier’s, I’ll definitely make it right. Just let me know and it will become my top priority.
Images
The image size is the actual size of the image. The overall size includes any extra material that surrounds the image like mats, frames, or white border.
My site creates a digital representation of a custom product that hasn’t been built yet, so the finished product you receive may be slightly different than what appears in the preview. Due to inconsistencies in monitors and settings, I can't guarantee that the color you see on your screen is an accurate portrayal of the true color. Also, keep in mind that different lighting conditions and types of lightbulbs in a room can alter the way a print looks.
I do not sell digital images for private printing.
I would be happy to do that! However, there are additional costs associated with this and it will also slow the shipping timeline. Please contact me for details.
This sort of stuff is always interesting. Please fill out this Licensing Request Form and I’ll be in touch.
Yes, all of my framed pieces have a hanging wire or a mounting cleat installed on the back.
A gicleé print that is mounted to a piece of panel board and then coated with UV & water resistant finish that protects the print instead of glass — so no glare! The coating also adds a bit of texture which creates a nice vintage look.
Shipping
It’s really hard to give an exact price. There are many factors that make up a price to ship something. If you are curious about something more specific please contact me and we can chat about it.
Usually within 3 to 10 business days, depending on the size of the print and what it's printed on. Every print is created when the order is placed.
Currently, I'm only shipping within the United States. However, I can get it to you if we make a plan.
